simple simple

Be it a t-shirt and jeans or a dress and flats, it's always nice to tone it down occasionally. My basic fringed top (which is somewhat  reminiscent of a dead muppet) paired with basic black denim, boots, and a thick leather jacket that I raided from my mother's closet did that just perfectly today. Seriously, there is nothing more comfortable than throwing on a pair of jeans and boots.

LA in the rain

Usually when it rains in LA, the entire city lets out one huge collective shriek before it plummets into Hunter Boot/Lululemon hysteria. Being Californians, dressing for weather that's not a sunny 70-some degrees is more than a challenge. That being said, there are still ways to look presentable whilst being doused in water. In the photos above, I have styled my beautiful friend Amanda in a shearling coat, wellies, and basics. For those questioning my choice of shearling, do not fret, it merely drizzles at most in the South Bay(Hallelujah).

To my fellow South Bay dwellers, have a warm and dry weekend!
To my other readers, I commend your weather resilience.

good things come in j.crew packages

Just got these amazing earrings and necklace from J. Crew! They're a bit costume jewelry-ish (which I like) so pairing them with more understated clothing is, in my opinion, definitely the way to go.

Happy Chinese New Year to my lovely readers!
Have a wonderful weekend.

pour la victoire

Is it possible to fall utterly in love with a pair of shoes? If so, I am in love with my new Pour la Victoire dress shoes. Despite my mom's initial assertion that I  "look like a pilgrim", I am thoroughly obsessed. Not only do they feed my fascination with menswear inspired clothing, but frankly they're just the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

When Melrose meets Fairfax

Every weekend on the corner of Fairfax and Melrose, vendors from across the greater LA area set up shop in the parking lot of Fairfax High School. This, is the Fairfax Flea Market. Complete with the usual eclectic mix of high and low brand used clothing (and of course the ever inconspicuous mink coat or two), the Fairfax Market also brings together skilled artisans.Virtually a maze of pop-up tents, the aisles are lined with ornately embellished picture frames, industrial light-bulb sculptures, vintage records, cameras, typewriters, and leather bags. Suffice to say it's incredibly easy to lose track of time.
The cherry on top of it all?
The prices are unbeatable.

cheers to fall

What do you think of when the word fall pops in your head?
Sweaters? Elections? Pumpkin spiced lattes? Holidays? Turkey? Overly boisterous relatives? parties?
For the sake of this post, we're just going to go with the latter. (so poll-checking-sweater-wearing-turkey-eaters bear with me here.)
It's always a challenge selecting the perfect outfit for a night out, especially when you run the risk of getting hypothermia on a chilly fall night. Personally, I love layering jackets(in this case, a camel prepschool blazer) over a polished dress or skirt combo. A pattern underneath gives the entire outfit a little more attitude while satin heels boost formality.

cheers!
